We're very excited to welcome Kat Schiffler and Kiki Suthard
into our little family here in the District. Kat begins rocking the Hill and SW
Waterfront with Devin this week, and Kiki will be making her first
rounds in Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights beginning next week. So,
if you see them walking a pet, say hi.
To join our ranks, Kiki has left her position at the University of Maryland health food cooperative, where she had her first experiences with workplace democracy while cooking and trying (we're guessing futilely) to popularize lifestyles that take less of a toll on our bodies, on animals, and on the world in general. Simultaneously, she's also been putting in time with the DC Childcare Collective, which supports families and parents engaged in grassroots struggles around the District. Kat just returned from a three month long bike tour from D.C. to Montreal and back - where she and two other ladies were making a documentary film about urban agriculture and the future of farming. She's had a number of jobs and adventures since coming to D.C. six years ago to attend college - from doing landscaping to working at a radio station in Bhutan. She became interested in exploring definitions of 'the worker' after traveling to Argentina and observing collective enterprises and unions of unemployed people. She hopes to be a journalist one day, but for now, she's putting up with us. A short video of her trip north is below. |
